Daniel's incredible run continues after Chengdu Open upset win over Sonego
Spain's Daniel continued his incredible run of results in 2024 with a clinical 6-4 6-2 victory over 11th seed Lorenzo Sonego to reach the quarterfinals of the Chengdu Open on Thursday.
Daniel, ranked 100th in the world, has now won 11 of his past 12 matches, including three wins over top-20 opposition and two wins this week already over top-50 opponents.
Sonego defeats Tsitsipas in Beijing to set up Medvedev clash
Lorenzo Sonego defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open on Thursday.
The Italian, who is ranked 24th in the world, broke Tsitsipas' serve twice in each set to secure a comfortable victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
It is the second time that Sonego has beaten Tsitsipas this year, having also defeated the Greek in the semifinals of the Rotterdam Open in February.
